Cold Resistance of Flower Buds of Latvian Plum Cultivars

Abstract Cold resistance of fruit tree buds is very important. Climate change brings unstable winters, and the temperature often fluctuates creates many problems in growing. Research on bud cold damage was conducted during three years (2019–2021) at Institute Horticulture. Three Latvian plum cultivars, ‘Ance’, ‘Adelyn’, ‘Sonora’, were studied, while cultivar ‘Jubileum’ used as a control. This study aimed to determine flower vegetative cultivars after deep dormancy period. Evaluation done one-year-old shoots spurs. period: February 2019 end January 2020 2021, keeping for limited time temperatures thresholds –20 °C, –25 –30 –35 °C alternating climate chambers. The results showed significant differences among years, between branch types. Vegetative all without damage. Up wood browning observed near base buds.
